Thanks for visiting my AIG webpage! My name is Samantha McDonald. This year (2016-2017) marks my 21st year in public education in North Carolina. I have taught elementary music, first and second grades, technology and this year I am excited to be teaching K-3 AIG. I love working with children, and I can't imagine doing anything else. For fun, I like to ski (downhill not water!) and I love to sail. We have a sailboat that we keep in Little Washington, North Carolina. My shar pei Bella (pictured left, on the ferry to Bald Head Island) also keeps me busy.
A bit about our program: In Kindergarten through Second we primarily work on thinking skills. I particularly love the P.E.T.S (Primary Education Thinking Skills) program which helps to develop deductive reasoning as well as visual and evaluative thinking skills. I try to meet with small groups of students (typically 3-4 from each class) at least once a week. This year, any third grade students that are identified as AIG will see me daily for English Language Arts and/or Math, depending on the area of identification. I also teach several AIG electives, including Best of the Best
(language arts based electives that focus on Newbery and Caldecott award winning books) and a K-2 elective called Thinking Power which focuses on the thinking skills of Bloom's Taxonomy.
If you have any questions about the K-3 AIG program here at Poe Magnet, please feel free to contact me at the school (919) 250-4777 or via e-mail at: [email protected]
